Union of Youth Council New Year Greetings

Happy New Year everyone,

I hope that the Christmas break was as relaxing and lovely for all of you as it was for the youth council! The council members were thrilled with the turnout for the Christmas Eve performance. Thank you to everyone who came out and to everyone who made the show possible. We hope that the message that was delivered about praying for peace in the Middle East stays close to everyone’s heart as we move into 2017.

The council is pleased to start focusing completely on our Union of Youth Festival now, and we would like to remind everyone between the ages of 16 and 30 that our door is always open and we meet Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. As a smaller council this year we would love to see some new faces and we would really appreciate the extra help! If anyone is interested feel free to send me an email at wren.shaman@yahoo.ca. The theme selected for this important anniversary is “Celebrating 70 years! A journey for peace, past present and future”, and we are excited to see what is to come in planning the event. This theme is so meaningful to us at this time because it reminds us to look back at how far we’ve come since the first youth festival, while focusing on the future and how we can do our part in helping other people find peace like we have.

Some exciting news regarding the youth festival this year, the festival planning committee meetings are starting up this month. Also we’re hoping to bring back the raffle so look out for lots of good prizes at festival! The council is hoping to recognize some of the incredible people who were in attendance of the first few festivals and share some of their precious memories with the congregation, so if anyone has any contacts, photos or memoirs feel free to share them with me (at the same address as above). Lastly, and potentially most important, we are pleased to share that the Friday evening performance is to be held in Grand Forks this year! This part of the event is being spearheaded by some awesome members of our Grand Forks community and we hope to bring everyone more information on it as soon as possible!

Thank you everyone for all of your support so far,

Wren Shaman
